Kenneth Cole is a New York based designer who was born on March 23, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, United States. In 1982 Kenneth D. Cole established his own venture called Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc., an American fashion label. He was born to a Jewish family. Charles Cole, father of Kenneth Cole used to head his shoe manufacturing company by the name- El Greco. He is a graduate of 1972 batch from John L. Miller Great Neck North High School. He also holds a degree from Emory College of Arts and Sciences of Emory University, which he was awarded with in the year 1976.

There is a little story behind the name being changed from Kenneth Cole Incorporated to Kenneth Cole Production- the designer desired to preview his line of shoes at the New York Hilton but because he was lose on the monetary front, a hotel room or showroom could not be rented. However he went ahead to a trailer that was two blocks away from the Hilton hotel. Yet the dream was a farfetched idea as permits were issued only to Production Company and that is how he got the chance to show his full-length film, titled “The Birth of a Shoe Company”. Unbelievably, within next couple of days, Kenneth Cole Productions managed to sell forty thousand pair of shoes.

In today’s times this luxury brand deals in women’s and men’s shoes, women’s and men’s apparel, and additionally accessories featured under Kenneth Cole Reaction Line. The three labels under which the work is carried out and marketed are- Kenneth Cole Reaction, Unlisted and Kenneth Cole New York.

On May 14, 2009, The Legal Aid Society of New York City presented its inaugural Theodore Roosevelt Corporate Award to designer Kenneth Cole at the venue of the event, Waldorf Astoria while the Servant of Justice Award Dinner was in play. Those proceeds were intended to nay homeless and poor of the New York City who struggle to have a bit of livelihood. He is one of the very successful designers of the century.
